ECO FRIENDLY & NO ELECTRICITY BILLS!

The house runs entirely on free, sustainable energy: 0.52kw solar panels and a 0.5kw wind generator produce electricity which is stored in Hawker 12 volt, 900 amp/hr deep-cycle batteries. In conjunction with a 2kw (constant) inverter, these batteries supply ample 230v day-and-night power for lighting, television, computers, washing machine etc. Backup power is via a 2.5kw generator + 50A battery chargers which can be used for additional battery charging on rare occasions if there is insufficient sun or wind.

Hot water is supplied by a solar heating system which uses vacuum tubes and has a 200L storage tank. There is also a propane/butane backup boiler which has rarely been used.

During the winter nights if heating is required, the lounge room has a large fireplace which generates masses of heat, and deadwood is plentiful on the land, or logs can bought locally. Efficient and economical propane/butane gas heaters supply additional heat if necessary.

Clean water for the house is stored in a 20,000 litre sealed tank, situated at the top of the driveway, and this supplies a gravity feed with ample pressure for showers, taps, washing machine etc. Water is delivered in a 9,000 litre bowser at a cost of 60€. For additional house or irrigation needs, options also exist to sink a bore hole or collect and store winter rain water.

A modern sewage system has been installed, incorporating the latest multi-chamber septic tank configuration which means that only clean water is released and emptying is never necessary.

Each room has ample electricity plug points, plus internet, TV and telephone sockets. Built in air conditioning pipes have been installed throughout the house, although air conditioning units have never been fitted.

The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with a large (235 litre), modern, energy-efficient, Taver fridge/freezer, plus a 4-ring hob and built in SMEG oven, all running on economical pro-pane or butane gas. There is a new dishwasher and the second bathroom / utility room has a slimline washing machine.

The house is attractively tiled throughout and both bathrooms are equipped with a bath.

A Sky TV satellite is installed, along with receivers, and terrestrial television is available via an aerial and digibox. An internet receiver is also fitted.

The house and land are registered and legal, as is the 25% portion of the older farm-house.
